COUPLES INTENSIVES · MADISON, CT

A day shaped around the two of you.

THE PROCESS

What to Expect

Your first intensive will be broken into four sections: an initial meeting together, an individual meeting with each of you, and another joint meeting, where I focus you on deep understanding of your patterns and support you in experiencing a new way to connect.

Subsequent intensives are custom-shaped to meet the needs we’ve identified.

  1. Free 15-minute call

We talk about what’s bringing you in and whether an intensive fits.

  2. Pre-intensive assessment

    Each partner completes intake questionnaires.

  3. The intensive

Structured EFT-based sessions at my Madison office, with a break built in. Sex therapy is woven in when it’s relevant.

SPACE TO GO DEEPER

Soothe, then Solve

Intensives create the space to do in a day what can take weeks of therapy. The extended time allows us to focus deeply on the patterns keeping you stuck, and to target the key things blocking you from having the relationship you long for.

My approach is simple: soothe, then solve. With extended time, we can create real moments of safety and reconnection, then build on them right away.

Macdara MacColl, LMFT
RELATIONSHIP & SEX EXPERT

Why work with Mac

I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and one of a small number of clinicians in Connecticut who is dual-credentialed as a Certified Emotionally Focused Couples Therapist and an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist. That means emotional connection and sexual connection can be addressed together, in the same room, by the same therapist.

I’ve worked with hundreds of couples and have served as an Adjunct Professor at the University of St. Joseph, teaching graduate courses in couples therapy and human sexuality.

FINDING THE RIGHT FIT

Is an intensive right for you?

  • You’ve been betrayed and need a structured place to begin repair.
  • You’re at a crossroads and need clarity about whether and how to stay together.
  • The same fight keeps winning. Weekly sessions haven’t broken the cycle.
  • Sex has become a source of distance, and you’re ready to address it directly.
  • Your schedules don’t allow weekly therapy, or you live too far for regular sessions.
  • You want to invest in a good relationship before small problems become big ones.

Intensives may not be right when there is ongoing violence, active addiction, or a crisis needing immediate care. We’ll talk about fit on your free call.

YOUR QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

Is an intensive better than weekly therapy?

Not better, but different. It suits couples who need momentum, clarity, or a format that fits their schedule. Many continue with some weekly sessions afterward.

What if we get overwhelmed?

We pace the day carefully, with breaks. Part of my job is keeping things safe enough to go deeper.

Can we do an intensive online?

Currently I don’t offer intensives online. Intensives take place at my Madison office.

Will insurance pay?

Intensives are private pay. Out-of-network reimbursement varies by plan; I can provide a superbill for you to submit.

What if one of us is more hesitant?

That’s common. The free call is a good place for both partners to ask questions.

My office is at 85 Wall Street in Madison, on the Connecticut shoreline between New Haven and Old Saybrook. It’s an easy drive from New York, Boston, and Hartford. Couples may choose to make a quiet weekend of it.

Because intensives are therapy, they’re available to anyone physically in Connecticut during sessions. Couples from other states are welcome to travel to my Madison office for their intensive.

A meal, a walk by the water, or a little time together can give you room to settle before heading home.
